THE PATH OF DELICIOUS CREATIVITY

A creative collaboration between Sai Villafuerte and
Kat Fernando, circumnavigating the worlds of food and creativity.

In a world grappling with the challenges brought on cultural appropriation, what can the history of food tell us about our lives and what can our lives tell us about the food we eat?

MANILA TAKEOUT

— A design initiative created to support the restaurant industry amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite emerging dine-in and delivery options, many of Manila’s beloved small businesses are struggling to survive. They have resorted to cost-cutting, lay-offs, and permanent closures. Takeout offers an alternative way to keep brands accessible to patrons during this difficult period.

WHAT’S GOING ON?

— We sought to develop a design evoking the parallels between cocktails and music — two things OTO is known for.

The circles convey several things: The “O” in OTO, a cocktail glass, a vinyl record, water ripples and a radio tower being the few that come to mind. Taking cues from their striped black and gold panelling, the circles build on OTO’s previous designs while adding something new to their visual language.

Behind the phrase “What’s going on?” is a double meaning. It is the thing we say to our friends upon entering a bar, and our famous last words after one too many drinks. This is OTO for us: A welcoming place where you can feel safe to be yourself.

While the phrase captures emotions many of us are feeling right now, it reminds us of spontaneous nights out with our loved ones that unravel in unexpected ways.
